Socket – Shield Technique (SST)

In the socket-shield technique (SST) the root is bisected, and the buccal two-third of the root is preserved in the socket so that the periodontium along with the bundle bone and the buccal bone remains intact. A classification of SST technique is proposed depending on the position of the shield in the socket.

The socket preservation procedure is also known as a bone graft. After a tooth is removed, the dentist places extra bone into the socket to preserve its structural integrity and keep the area strong. The extra bone may be from elsewhere in a patient’s body or from an animal. Artificial materials may also be used.

  Gingival Protector provides protection for your patient and convenience for you. With the Gingival Protector, you can retract soft tissue to protect gingiva from rotary instruments during cutting and finishing. Gingival Protecting Shields provide protection of the gingiva during refinement of the socket shield.

Indications:

-Gingival retraction and/or protection

-Veneer preparations,

-Finishing porcelain or resin veneer margins,

-Class V subgingival caries removal,

-Checking marginal fit of crowns

-Checking loose bridges.
